Want to Volunteer or Adjudicate at SMERC or UMERC!

Applications always open

  • Casualty

All casualties must be 18 years or over and be familiar with the scenario. Casualties need to be realistic in their portrayal of their agony/symptoms.

On certain occasions casualties will be required to be ‘made-up’ with simulated injuries and this may involve the use of fake blood. Old clothing is recommended, or disposable overalls may be provided at the Event Manager’s discretion.

  • Adjudicator

Event Adjudicators must have experience and the appropriate skill set for the event they are judging. Where a first-time adjudicator is not completely confident in their adjudication role, the Event Manager must assist / mentor them, or, where possible, consider having them ‘buddy’ with an experienced adjudicator.

Current, active participation in the training, administration or development of Mine Rescue procedures or emergency response and training and experience in Mines Rescue disciplines.

  • Marshal

Marshals accompany their allocated team to / from each event and ensure the team is on time.

They ensure their allocated team does not observe any event in which they have not participated.

Marshals also coordinate the team mustering and transport.
